Absence & Safeguarding

Absence

Children are no longer able to take holiday leave during term due to statutory guidelines. The expectation that parents of particular professions could take leave due to their job has been removed, as has the reference to ’10 days’ of allowable leave. Students taking time off for holidays or holiday-type activities will be recorded as ‘unauthorised’ absence; we will disaggregate those figures to any outside agency that makes a request for attendance data.

The Headteacher still has some powers to authorise absence in exceptional circumstances such as interviews, medical treatment, open days and funerals. If you need to make a request for exceptional leave, please complete the form on our resources page.

Sickness

Please ensure that you regularly check your children’s hair for headlice/nits and make an effort to tie up long hair while in school.

Children can return to school 48 hours AFTER their last bout of diarrhoea and sickness. If medicine needs to be administered at school, please complete the form on our resources page.

Internet safety

Protecting our children from the dangers posed by using the internet requires parents and children to know the basics of internet safety.

Check out our useful tips on keeping your children safe online.

#DITTO is a free half-termly magazine for parents to keep you up to date with risks, issues, advice and guidance on keeping children safe online.

Children must always:

  • Always ask for an adult’s permission before using the internet.
  • Never give out personal information e.g. name, home address, school or any telephone numbers. If you are asked for this information, tell an adult straight away.
  • If a website asks for a name or email address, always check with an adult.
